1st Annual Hill Challenge (Labor Day)
"Bodow Events" First Annual Labor Day Hill Challenge" takes us to Chaguaramas where a well thought out circuit event has been well prepared specifically to test your mettle, true grit and bad mind for this heck of a grind of an expedition. At the end of this enthralling experience, you will definitely feel a true sense of accomplishment. After what has been said here therefore, you should very well know by now know that your physical fitness level MUST be nothing short but at least GOOD.
What is needed for this undertaking? Just a few simple but very important requirements for your own good and they are:
Dri Fit Jersey
Short Trousers - Long Trousers if you feel more comfortable
A very good pair of Track Shoes/Hiking Shoes with very good sole
A good backpack that can comfortably carry your essentials for this expedition
A cap will really be essential, especially for the last leg of this challenge
A pair of sunglasses will also help a lot
A generous supply of drinking water to constantly keep you hydrated. A camel pack that carries at least 1.5 liters of water
Snacks, energy gels/drinks you're accustomed with
The Labor Day Hill Challenge is broken into (5) stages and they go as follows:
The Hill Challenge starts at "Squadron Road"- Base of Morne Catherine" where we trek, run, jog all along a concrete road all the way to the summit where at first, the road is flat and nice, eventually heading up a gentle incline all the way to the summit which by the way is 1,686 feet (514 meters).
At this point, we have done 5 miles (8.05 kms).
We now enter into the
forest where a great nature trail and well deserved canopy of the semi
deciduous trees greets us as we make our way all the way downhill. One has to
be extremely careful at some parts of the trail as there are extremely steep
slopes that can so easily lead to twisted ankles and other joints.
As we eventually reach to flat terrain, we are therefore on the well-known "Macqueripe Trail" that will once again carry us up another hill to a ridge that offers generous views of the Caribbean Sea and Macqueripe Bay. Terrain here is undulating all the way until we head on downhill to Macqueripe Car Park.
Distance covered to this point is 8 miles (12.9 kms).
This leg begins at the start of the asphalt road from Macqueripe Car Park where our "First Official Water Stop" is there for us to replenish before starting at first flat walking, jogging, or running through the picturesque "Bamboo Cathedral" before the uphill road greets us that goes all the way to the top of the Tracking Station. Enjoy this bit of the well-deserved flat terrain, for we will once again be heading into the forest where the nature trail will once again be carrying us further uphill constantly until we eventually reach to the summit of the "Four Palmiste Hill". At this point, we head on downhill all the way all along clean, clear terrain until we arrive at the popular "Samaan Tree Park".
Distance covered at this point is 10 miles (16.09 kms).
At Samaan Tree Park, top up your water at the "2nd Official Water Stop" and trust me....you will need it as this final leg is definitely the toughest leg of the entire Challenge. We first trek, jog, run along the Tucker Valley Road until we turn along Bellerand Road leading to the Golf Course where this course is nice and flat. We eventually veer off Bellerand Road onto a narrow road that is overgrown by clusters of bamboos until the dreaded "Archer's Hill" awaits us. This hill starts off gradually slowly getting steeper and steeper every step of the way. At some points, there are ropes attached to assist the participants as they labor their way uphill until at last, the summit greets us where ironically we come back out on Squadron Road.
Altitude at this point is 1,439 feet (438.6 meters), and distance covered to here is 11.5 miles (18.5 kms).
The final leg is the reverse of what was done earlier where gentle downhill trekking, jogging, running all the way finally to the finish.
Total distance covered is 16 miles (25.7 kms).

Another beautiful feature about the Whats app groups is that whatever hike that is advertised, those registering for such hike, another Whats app page on that hike will be made and your name will be added to that hike you've registered for, hereby giving you full details and pictures of the place to be visited, as well as latest information about that hike you need to know. When that hike concludes, so does that page.

participants are responsible for acquainting themselves with the rules
pertaining to participation in the "Labor Day Hill Challenge"
event, and for adhering to those rules in every way. Failure to abide by the
rules may lead to disqualification.
Participants must start the event at the time advertised. The timing system is only in operation at that moment.
Timing will stop 6 hours after the start of the event. Participants arriving to the finishing area after those 10 hours have elapsed will not get a registered time.
Participants MUST wear their bib numbers clearly visible on the front of their attire for the entire duration of the event. Each bib number is registered to a particular participant and is only valid for that individual. Any deviation from this will result in the non-validation of the participant's time.
The 25.7 km Hill Challenge is for participants 18 years of age and older.
No dogs or other pets are allowed on the events course.
Participants shall behave politely toward all "Trail Marshals" and abide by their guidance and instructions.
Participants shall show consideration for other participants and keep in mind of the rules of the trail/road.
Those who have completed the event may not re-enter the course in order to join the other participants who are still running/walking.
Each participant MUST sign the event waiver before participating in the event.
I have provided or attached to my entry form, details of any medical or physical conditions from which I suffer that might affect my performance or be relevant if medical treatment is needed. I accept the risk of participating despite these conditions. I have supplied an emergency contact name and number, this person is contactable both during and after the event and is not another participant.
I understand that compulsory insurance cover affected for participants in this event may not cover me for all injury, loss or damage sustained by me.
Safety precautions undertaken by the organizers (such as course supervision, event safety briefings and other safety checks) are a service to me and other participants, but are not a guarantee of safety.
My event registration is not transferable to other people or other events. Any attempt to transfer my entry or allow another person to participate under my name without the event organizer's knowledge may result in total cancellation without refund, and inability to enter Bodow Events event.
Event organizers may change the event format, course or other event conditions at their discretion. If that occurs, this agreement applies to the changed conditions.
I agree that if the event is cancelled or postponed due to storm, rain, inclement weather, high winds, or other "Act of God" conditions or safety concerns, “50% of my entry fee shall be refunded” or if I do not participate in the event for any other reason, my entry fee shall be "non-refundable".
I agree to abide by all event results and directions issued by the event organizer and/or the relevant sport's governing body.
I certify that I will receive an event briefing prior to the event that I will view and abide by.
I acknowledge and consent to photographs and electronic images taken of me before, during and after the event by an official representative of the event organizer. I acknowledge and agree that such photographs and electronic images are owned by the event organizer and event sponsors may use the images, my name and my performance for promotional broadcasting, reporting purposes and/or other purposes at any time by any form of media without my further consent being necessary. The event organizer is not responsible for photographs and electronic images taken by persons who are not an official representative of the event organizer.
I acknowledge and consent to the event organizers providing my personal details (limited to event number, full name and email address) for the purpose of promoting photographs from the event. Nature Trekking in T&T will place photos from the event on to their website.
I agree to my name and contact details being included on the event database which may be used for commercial purposes. I acknowledge that Bodow Events/Nature Trekking in T&T will automatically subscribe me to the monthly event email newsletter which contains important information and updates relating to upcoming events. I acknowledge that I may also receive communication from Bodow Events/Nature Trekking in T&T. I can opt-out at any time by clicking the relevant link in any of these communications.
I am fully responsible for the security of my personal possessions at the event including other valuable items within the event transition area. Bodow Events/Nature Trekking in T&T will not be liable for replacement of any personal possessions.
Participants' event number bibs are specific personal identifiers and may not be exchanged with or transferred/sold to any other person.
The sale and/or transfer of event entries/bibs are strictly prohibited and will result in the disqualification and/or banning of any individual(s) involved from future events.
Participants must pick up their own packets at (a location to be announced).
Participants must provide photo identification upon picking up their packets to verify their identity as the registrant to whom the bib number is assigned.
Participants must COMPLETE their respective event in order to qualify for a "Finisher's Medal".
