Details on L'eau Michel Volcano & Beach

Rating of this walk is (4) FAIR.

Deep in the quaint village of Penal, in the middle of the teak fields lies this beautiful phenomenon, the MUD VOLCANOES. This large volcanic cone has become a national sight seeing visit by both locals and visitors. Pending on weather conditions, one can easily drive right up to this volcanic cone, otherwise, one would have to park at the start of the teak fields and take a cool 25-30 minute walk  to reach to L'eau Michel. Bathing  inside the volcanic cone is STRICTLY prohibited with me for safety reasons. One can sit by the edges of the cone and enjoy that bit of mud bath before we proceed for a further 35 minute walk through the teak field and through natural forest until we finally reach to L'eau Michel Beach which actually is part of the Columbus Channel. Pending on the time of the year, this beach though always nice and calm, can be brown in complexion due to the overflow of the Orinoco Delta which is in Venezuela not far from our location......nevertheless, bathing in the sea is safe regardless.

Distance from the mud volcano to the beach (one way) is 1.3 miles.
